City-based carrier eyes 22 flights at Daxing
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2019-09-25 08:29

China Eastern Airlines will operate its first batch of 22 domestic and international flights to and from the new Beijing mega airport over the winter travel season.

The domestic routes from the Shanghai-based carrier include flights between the DaxingInternational Airport and Shanghai, Harbin in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, Hangzhou in Zhejiang and Xining in the northwest Qinghai Province.

Two international routes are between Daxing and Japan’s Fukuoka via Qingdao in east China’s Shandong Province, as well as Da Nang in Vietnam.

Most of China Eastern’s flights between Shanghai and Beijing will continue to operate out of Capital International Airport, while the carrier will operate two daily flights between the Pudong airport and Daxing, as well as Hongqiao and Daxing via Luoyang in the central Henan Province.

Passengers with the airline can buy discounted railway tickets between the new airport and downtown Beijing.

China Eastern plans to develop the Daxing airport as another transport hub, following Shanghai’s two airports.

The new airport near the junction of Beijing’s Daxing District and Langfang in Hebei Province is expected to handle 45 million passengers annually by 2021 and 72 million by 2025.

Covering a land area of 47 square kilometers, the new airport will be double the size of the existing capital airport — currently the largest in China.
