Riverside exhibition suspended due to typhoon
From:Shine  |  2019-10-01 16:29

The main exhibition of the Shanghai Urban Space Art Season will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday due to inclement weather created by the approaching Typhoon Mitag.

The Maoma Warehouse on 468 Yangshupu Road, along the Huangpu River waterfront in Yangpu District, has been shut down to ensure safety during the typhoon, organizers said on Tuesday.

The warehouse welcomed the public for the first time as the main indoor exhibition space of the art season. It was built in 1920 by a British textile company and later purchased by the state-owned Shenxin Textile Factory No. 7. The structure bore witness to the prosperity and decline of the nation's textile industry, organizers said.

All other events planned along the riverside region for Tuesday and Wednesday have also been canceled. Visitors who made reservations should rearrange their schedules, organizers said.

The biennial exhibition, launched on Saturday, is otherwise open free to the public between 2pm and 8pm from Tuesday to Friday, and 10am and 8pm on weekends and holidays. Booking is required on the event's WeChat account.

The exhibition features artworks from global artists, while the preserved industrial site showcases the redevelopment of Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek as well as the city's future vision for riverside areas.
