Scattered showers, rising temps as typhoon heads back to sea

The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau lifted its blue typhoon alert at 7am on Wednesday morning with TyphoonMitag heading back out to sea, forecasters said.

In place of the earlier warning, the bureau issued a blue gale alert.

According to the National Meteorological Center, Mitag entered the sea after it made landfall in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province.

At 10am, its center was located about 245 kilometers southwest of Jeju Island, South Korea.

Packing maximum winds of 90 kilometers per hour (kph), is was heading northeastwardat a speed of 28 kph and weakening.

Around Mitag's landfall, the water level of the Huangpu River hit its warning level due to a combination of gale winds, rains and rising tide.

At 3am on Wednesday, the river recorded its peak water level and part of the waterfront platform on Pudong's Riverside Avenue had been flooded, where people were banned from entering.

On Wednesday, skies will be mostly overcast to cloudy but there will still be a few scattered brief showers in the city.

It will also get warmer with the high increasing to 28 Celsius.

The weather on Thursday and Friday will mainly be cloudy, with highs of 29 to 30 degrees.

The last three days of the National Day holiday, Saturday to Monday, will be influenced by a cold front with a round of light rainfall. The high will drop to between 23 and 25 degrees during this period.

Air quality during the seven-day holiday will mainly be good.
