Karting courses for primary students
From:Shine  |  2019-10-11 13:29

Primary school students from Jiading District will get lessons in racing during the new semester.

Students from six primary schools in Jiading District will get the opportunity to sit behind the wheel after karting courses are introduced in the new semester.

The six schools are Fangtai Primary School, Defu Road Primary School, Zijing Primary School, Anting Primary School, Tongji University Experimental School and ECNUAS Affiliated Bilingual School.

Over 100 students will take part in the courses, which will cover motor racing history, mechanics and racing rules. After acquiring basic knowledge, the students will receive hands-on training and visit the Shanghai SAIC International Circuit’s Kart World in the latter part of the semester.

The project is jointly organized by the China Sport Administration’s motor sport center, Jiading District Sports Bureau, Jiading District Educational Administration, Juss Sports Group (organizer of the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix) and Shanghai Jiupu Sports Culture Communication Company.

Jiupu, organizer of the Grand Prix Kart Scholarship, a national kart competition for children aged from 7 to 15, provides coaches and instructors.

Last year when the project was launched, Fangtai Primary School and Defu Road Primary School each sent 20 students to participate in a total of 15 lessons. This year, the number of schools and students involved has increased.

“Motor sports can help build student’s will power,” said Yao Zhong, head master of Fangtai Primary School. “It will be great if we can also spot some future talent.”

Organizers hope the project will promote the sport among youngsters, especially in Jiading District where Shanghai SAIC International Circuit and the Shanghai International Automobile City are located.
