A “media+” center was unveiled at Shanghai International Studies University on Wednesday to converge all forms of media to serve education.

The SISU Center for Media+ is one of the first batch of 15 campus convergence media centers nationwide approved by the Ministry of Education.

The center features converge of the university’s strength in language education in campus news reports. During the unveiling ceremony, two new versions of its website, one in Hungarian and another in Swahili, were added to its original 22 language versions.

Since its multiple-language website was launched in December 2014, it has published more than 6,000 articles in 22 languages, including Chinese, English, French and Russian, with some of them quoted by Chinese and foreign media, as well as websites of embassies, consulates and other governmental organizations. The university has also established a team of more than 100 teachers and students from home and abroad.

The center also features partnerships with media and communities outside of the campus.

On Wednesday, it signed a cooperation agreement with Shanghai Daily. The newspaper will support the university’s school of journalism and communication, building up a series of converged media products, while the university will also share its resources with Shanghai Daily. The two will also enhance cooperation in education and the practice of international journalism and develop quality courses.

The school will cultivate talent for Shanghai Daily while Shanghai Daily will provide internships for students.

The SISU center also unveiled a Songjiang Working Station in cooperation with the Songjiang District Convergence Media Center to share resources and explore ways to develop media convergence.

Wang Jing, deputy Party secretary of the university, said the center was named “media+” as it will not only converge all forms of media, but also integrate education with media, making it an important platform for education, combining classes, after-class activities, Internet and social practices.
