More than 70 percent of local residents are able to sort garbage in corresponding trash bins and nearly 80 percent can do garbage sorting without the supervision of volunteers, according to a survey conducted by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences released yesterday.

More than 1,400 people were surveyed. Results show that more than 74 percent are satisfied with the effects of the city’s work on garbage sorting. Some 75 percent of residents thought the volunteers play an important role in garbage-sorting promotion. However, the top three remaining problems related to garbage sorting identified by respondents are complex rules, imperfect facilities and weak awareness.
