About 300 cultural and tourism activities will be hosted in Xi'an, in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, the city's cultural and tourism authorities said in Shanghai during a promotional event.

Traditional Chinese Lunar New Year culture exhibitions, temple fairs, costume parades, lantern fairs and intangible culture heritage displays are among the offerings.

The festivities will last 41 days in January and February and involve attractions such as Xi'an Museum and Tang Paradise, representatives from the Xi'an Culture and Tourism Administration said in Xuhui District on Thursday.

A temple fair at the Tang West Market scenic area will feature dragon and lion dances, folk cultural displays, folk music performances, riddles, stilt parades, gong and drum music, Tang-style dance, and embroidery and porcelain exhibitions, according to the administration.

Folk custom experiences are also part of the temple fair, replicating the bustling bazaar of Xi'an in the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907).

At Qujiang New District, various events like a folk custom and cultural exhibition will be hosted at the Daming Palace National Heritage Park. Activities will include displays of intangible cultural heritage such as Qinqiang Opera facial makeup and clay modeling.

Tang-style markets and Tang costume parades will be held at the Tang Paradise, and a lantern festival will take the spotlight at the South Gate area of Xi'an.

Xi'an is a charming city and its Chinese Lunar New Year celebration has become a calling card of the city's culture and tourism, said Lu Jiangtao, an official with the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism.

Examples of intangible cultural heritage from Xi'an, such as tradtional opera facial makeup, ShehuoOpera performances and paper-cuts were displayed during the promotion event.
