Production resumes; many work from home
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2020-02-11 08:29

Many manufacturing enterprises in Shanghai resumed production yesterday while many office staff continued to work without leaving their homes, according to the Shanghai commission of economy and information.

More than 80 percent local manufacturing enterprises had said in a recent survey that they would like to resume production starting yesterday, and 70 percent of them have done so, the commission’s deputy directorZhang Ying told a press conference.

Meanwhile, more than 80 percent of software and information services companies that resumed work yesterday were allowing 70 percent of their employees to work from home.

Earlier, the commission had coordinated the resumption of work at 598 enterprises in 14 districts, including 248 involved in the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.

Zhang said that there were three priorities for the resumption of work.

Urban operations

The first was to ensure production at key enterprises that manufacture epidemic prevention and control materials, and to support enterprises supplying raw materials.

The second was to make sure enterprises have enough supplies for preventing and controlling the epidemic, especially enterprises that are themselves actively involved in epidemic prevention and control as well as enterprises with urban operations.

Enterprises in Shanghai involved in urban operations, such as electricity, communications and petrochemicals, have all resumed production.

The third priority was to strengthen supervision and make sure measures for epidemic prevention and control were fully implemented. The commission said it is cooperating with relevant departments to strengthen supervision and inspection of the implementation of a notice it issued earlier.

The “Notice on Resuming Work and Production of Enterprises,” which formulates work requirements for enterprises in Shanghai, has been distributed to more than 140 industrial parks, 220 cultural and creative industrial parks and software and information services parks.
