Over 110,000 volunteers have served in Shanghai’s efforts to curb the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic since January, the government said on Monday.
By Sunday, over 4,200 volunteer programs had also been posted via https://sh.chinavolunteer.cn/, and the most popular include awareness campaigns, community safeguarding and first-aid.
Community volunteers are also needed for temperature screenings, household visits, ration mask registration and disinfection of residential buildings. They are also being recruited to help with traffic management and translation services.
Among volunteers recruited so far, about 45 percent of them are between 35 and 60 years old, and 38 percent are over 60 years old. They have served 17 hours each on average, according to the government.
All volunteers who participate are entitled to enrollment in a special insurance policy.
People interested in becoming volunteers can look up the programs at https://sh.chinavolunteer.cn/app/opp/list.php, where they will have to register before signing up. The website is only in Chinese.
