Science and technology commission to reward frontline work
From:Shine  |  2020-02-22 19:29

Scientists who contribute to the fight against COVID-19 will be rewarded, whether from home or abroad, according to Shanghai Science and Technology Commission.

Breakthroughs in quick detection of the virus, understanding the pathogenic mechanism, exploring therapies and new vaccines are badly needed, so the commission is offering hefty rewards.

Scientists across the world are encouraged to take part, especially those in clinical diagnosis and treatment. Candidates and research projects will enjoy financial support, and the commission will send staff to help deal with problems in shortage of supplies and in official approval.

High-tech companies who make outstanding contributions will receive the help from the commission to list on the science and technology innovation board.

To encourage more enterprises to join the fight against the virus, the commission will hold a contest in which enterprises can seek technical support to solve difficulties.

The commission also encourages local universities, enterprises and institutions to work in key infected areas.

For researchers and scientists who work at the frontline, their performances during the epidemic will be taken into account when they apply for professional titles and they will be granted preference in nominations for the 2020 Shanghai Science and Technology Awards.

Foreigners will also be granted preference in the international cooperation award of the 2020 Shanghai Science and Technology Awards.
