Workers dismantle an illegal structure in the minsu.

A minsu, or B&B, in downtown Shanghai was closed and had an illegal structure dismantled after irregularities were spotted by officials during inspections to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the city's urban management and law enforcement authorities said on Sunday.

The minsu operator was accused of operating secretly by nearby residents although the house on Nanchang Road in Huangpu District was sealed off by authorities with the operator told to suspend operations during the outbreak period, the Shanghai Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau said.

Two tenants from outside Shanghai were spotted at the house by officials and neither had registered at the community.

In addition, the minsu operator was found to have built an illegal structure, damaging the housing structure, the bureau said.

The house was sealed again, and the two tenants have moved out, officials said.

The illegal structurehas been dismantled and an investigation is underway.

A few business operators in the city have ignored requirements and started operations secretly, posing big hazards, officials warned.
