Testing continues for China-developed jetliners
From:Shine  |  2020-02-24 15:29

The sixth prototype of the C919, China’s first home-developed long-haul passenger aircraft, takes off from the Pudong International Airport.

China’s domestically developed regional and narrow-body jets completed test flights in Shanghai over the weekend.

The sixth prototype of the C919, China’s first home-developed long-haul passenger aircraft, took off from the Pudong International Airport on Sunday and landed at the Dongying airport in Shandong Province after about two hours of flying, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) said on Monday.

Wu Xin, captain of the maiden flight for the second C919, was one of the test pilots along with two other pilots and two engineers onboard the plane.

The aircraft, known as No. 106, will undergo cabin, illumination and exterior noise tests at the Dongying test flight base.

The sixth prototype completed its maiden flight at the Pudong International Airport in December 2019.

Meanwhile, two ARJ21s, China’s domestically developed regional jet, started further test flights at the Pudong and Dachang airports in Shanghai over the weekend. The No. 131 aircraft finished its maiden flight of three hours and 39 minutes at the Dachang airport in north Baoshan District.

COMAC has restored manufacturing and research for the domestically developed aircraft, while taking measures to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the company said.

The first five prototypes of the C919 are undergoing a series of tests in northwest Shaanxi Province as well as Shandong and Jiangxi provinces.

Manufacturing has also begun on parts for the first batch of C919s for commercial use.

The C919, with 168 seats and a range of 5,555 kilometers, will compete for orders with the Airbus 320 neo and the Boeing 737 MAX.

COMAC has secured 850 orders from 30 foreign and domestic airlines for the C919. The first C919 made its maiden flight from Shanghai on May 5, 2017. The CR929 passenger jet, a Sino-Russian project, has entered the detailed design phase.

The ARJ21 regional aircraft is undergoing commercial operation by linking 38 cities from home and abroad. The jetliners have carried a total of 690,000 passengers on 37 air routes, said COMAC.

ARJ21 is China's first turbo-fan regional passenger jetliner. It was put into commercial service for the first time in June 2016. To date, COMAC has delivered a total of 22 ARJ21 airplanes.
