Holidaymakers flock to Shanghai attractions

Shanghai's tourism market is booming on the first day of the National Day holiday. More than 150 attractions across the city received a combined 950,000 visits as of 3pm on Thursday, the first day of the holiday, soaring 110 percent from the same day last year.

Specifically, the Shanghai Wild Animal Park received 23,000 visits, surging 254 percent from last year; while the Chenshan Botanical Garden received 9,700, up 2,325 percent, the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism said.

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower recorded 15,000 visits, about the same as last year. Haichang Ocean Park notched 18,500, up 208 percent.

The Shanghai International Tourism Resort received 50,000 visits, an increase of 43.6 percent from last year. Sheshan National Tourism Resort welcomed 57,900, up 426 percent.

Scenic areas in Chongming Island had 28,000 visits, up 655.9 percent.

Ninety museums in the city received 80,400 visits in total, expanding 98.8 percent from last year, according to the administration.
