Ying Yong was elected as new Shanghai mayor at the annual session of Shanghai People’s Congress today.

Ying, 60, has served as deputy Party secretary since 2014 and executive vice mayor of Shanghai since September 2016.

Ying, a native of Zhejiang Province, gained a master’s degree in law and joined the Communist Party of China in April 1979.
