After a debut performance at New York’s Carnegie Hall, the National Youth Orchestra-China (NYO-China) undertook a three-city concert tour in Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou from July 26th to 29th.

On July 28th, 105 young artists of NYO-China showed off their musical talents at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. Led by Ludovic Morlot, a Grammy Award-winning conductor, the musicians presented Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor,” Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, “From the New World” and Chinese composer Zhou Long’s “Taigu Ryme.” Pianist Olga Kern also participated in the performance.

The orchestra is made up of Chinese-born students ranging from 14 to 21 years of age. All members were selected through competitive processes before joining the group.
