An astronomy exhibition titled “Starry Sky Illumination” is now on display at the Shanghai Natural History Museum.

Presented in the temporary exhibition hall of the museum, the exhibition showcases more than 110 photographs featuring astronomical objects, celestial events and large areas of the night sky. The photographs are collected from over 20 countries and regions and a majority of them have won prizes in competitions.

In another area that takes up about 200 square meters of floor space, visitors will be wowed by a breathtaking high-resolution image of the starry sky projected by Super Megastar-II. First presented in 2008, Super Megastar-II is the world’s most advanced night sky projector which is capable to project up to 13th-magnitude stars (around 22 million stars). All the 140 Messier objects including nebulae, clusters and galaxies are also reproduced by the device.

What’s more, in the “Digital Sky” section of the exhibition, there is an immersive circular-screen presentation of the starry sky. In the simulated astrological system, people can “fly” over the solar system and see remote nebulae and galaxies with their own eyes. Or they can take a virtual spaceship and have a closer look at the celestial bodies.

The themed exhibition will last until November 26, 2017.
