Suzhou River Arts festival as well as Yichuan Opera Festival is scheduled to be kicked off on October 12, during the one-month event, Putuo district in Shanghai where the river is located is expected to host more than one hundred cultural activities to produce "a banquet of culture and arts, a holiday of the people".

Suzhou River in Shanghai which gave birth to Putuo's industrial civilization and witnessed Putuo's changes is a key cultural resource of the district.

Focusing on combining culture with education, the festival is to cover a series of programs, for instance, a carving base will be co-established in two schools by Putuo Cultural Bureau and a cultural center, intangible culture such as paper painting, shadow play, Jiangnan folk music will be introduced to Muslim primary school.

As Shanghai's only comprehensive cultural activity themed at all kinds of mainstream operas, Yichuan Opera Festival has a profound mass base. At the opera festival, apart from Shanghai Peking Opera Theater's special performance, classical repertoire Dumb Girl Files a Suit presented by Shanghai Huaiju Troupe and Yueju opera highlights performed by community's youth Yueju troupe, audiences could also have opportunities to enjoy creative opera 3D Pictures Exhibition, creative opera flower arrangement, etc.
