Recently, a hairy crab ATM showed up in an office building on Shanghai’s Changning Road, attracting the attention of many passers-by.

The ATM housed around one hundred hairy crabs from Yangcheng Lake, a place in China’s Jiangsu Province famous for the delicacy.

Bottled in a round plastic container, each crab cost only 15 yuan, which was much lower than the market price. Customers could purchase a fresh hairy crab only by scanning a QR code on the machine and paying with their mobile phone.

As a security guard of the office building told the reporter, all the crabs were sold out 30 minutes after the ATM was put into service. Staff kept replenishing the shelves from time to time. 

It is reported that the ATM, which only existed for three days, was actually a test by an e-commerce company. During the three days of operation, hundreds of crabs were sold and most customers’ reactions to the new service were positive, though there were some concerns about the quality control of the products.
