Classic ballet drama The White-haired Girl produced by Shanghai Ballet Troupe is expected to be back on Shanghai’s stage at the end of October.

Born in 1964, The White-haired Girl as the most successful repertoire of Shanghai Ballet Troupe been performed for more than 2000 sessions during the past 53 years. As the first drama of the troupe’s 2017 winter performing season, it is expected to present beauty of ballet to audiences along with the follow-up national ballet repertoire The Butterfly Lovers, fashion ballet The Last Mission of Marco Polo and Christmas ballet The Nutcracker.

“After almost half a century, The White-haired Girl is still delicate, no matter in terms of stage art or costume or even the setting slideshow which is full of the sense of time, it looks like a painting of Claude Monet.”said Xin Lili, leader of Shanghai Ballet Troupe.

Talking about the drama’s inheritance by generations of the troupe’s performers, Xin said sentimentally,“Time has changed and we even cannot find old masters to draw slideshow, but we have been trying our best to remain the beauty of the drama and the enormous shock the classic brings to us.”

It is said that performers playing the protagonist Xier in The White-haired Girl is the eighth generation of the troupe’s performers.
