Visually impaired people in Shanghai enjoy movies

Ahead of the White Cane Safety Day which falled on October 15, Shanghai held the fifth “Barrier-free movie Day”, almost one thousand visually impaired people entering sixteen specified cinemas across the city to sense the charm of films.

On the activity day, Qinghaihu Lake Front starred by Qin Yi and Tong Ruixin was broadcast simultaneously in the sixteen cinemas with Tong Ruixin as the narrator for the disabled appreciators.

Cooperated by Shanghai Disabled Persons’Federation and Oriental Broadcast Center, the Barrier-free Movie Day has helped lots of visually handicapped persons entertain films since 2012.

Since Shanghai Cathay Cinema, a commercial movie theater opened special session for barrier free movies in 2012, commercial theaters all over the city follow the suit. Currently, eighteen commercial theaters put on stage one session of such film per month, projecting more than 200 sessions of such film each year and servicing altogether more than 100,000 people in the past five years.

At present, over 160 communities have arranged broadcasting spots for barrier free films.
