Shanghai metro shows up in World Skills Abu Dhabi 2017

In the Chinese exhibition area at the World Skills Abu Dhabi 2017 which opened on October 14 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, projects showcased by SAIC Motor Corporation,Ltd. and Shanghai Shentong Metro Co.,Ltd as a vital window for displaying China's and Shanghai’s techniques training results have caught global eyes.

The future concept vehicle displayed by SAIC Motor Corporation especially attracted lots of attention. Wearing a VR helmet, participants could instantly traverse to a bus production workshop, and by waving a remote control, the bus’ body color, wheels and skylights could be customized before being automatically installed by a robot to form a whole internet new energy vehicle.

The autopilot vehicle takes experiencers on a virtual journey starting from Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower and passing along the “Belt and Road” to the World Skills in Abu Dhabi.

According to a leader of SAIC, through the VR experience project, participants could sense the comprehensive revolution of enterprises’ intelligent manufacture and such VR technology is being adopted in SAIC’s skills talents training, making employees more familiar with new technology and crafts. “First-class vehicle production requires first-class skilled artisans, and SAIC 's development also provides a better career development platform for outstanding talent.”

The Shanghai metro project also has a strong appeal to audiences. Foreign audiences monitoring driving a Shanghai metro were intoxicated in the virtual landmark buildings scenery like the Bund, Lujiazui, People’s Square, China Arts Museum continuously appearing on the screen.

Yu Saidie, director of the Training Center of Shanghai Metro Transportation introduced that, being the same with the equipment for Shanghai’s metro drivers’ training, the set of driving simulator station makes audiences not only experience the skills required for accurately controlling the train, but also sense the grace of Shanghai metro transportation and the vitality of the city.

It is reported that this is the fourth time Chinese team has attended such a contest, which is comparable to an Olympic game in the skills field. With 52 competitors to compete in 47 skills, it is the largest ever delegation China has sent overseas and also the most competing skills it has taken part in.
