Seeing Shanghai in Hudec’s architecture
By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2017-12-05 08:49

The former residence of László Hudec is located at 129 Panyu Road.

From 1918 to 1947, over 60 buildings throughout Shanghai were designed by Hungarian architect László Hudec, including some indelible landmarks, such as the Park Hotel and the Wukang Building. To pay tribute to his special connection to Shanghai, the Hudec Architecture Culture Month is celebrated each December. Last Saturday, an opening ceremony was held at Hudec’s former home at 129 Panyu Road in downtown Changning District.

According to Xinmin.cn, a photography competition titled “This Is My Home” will run through December 24. On December 2, some of the photographs were unveiled at Hudec’s former home. Competitors submitted thousands of entries which portrayed their perception of and love for Shanghai’s architectural heritage.

During the cultural month, the organizer of the event will also collect photographs of buildings designed by Hudec from the general public.  Photographers, scholars and experts on urban architecture heritage conservation will be gathered together for a range of themed cultural dialogues.
