Chinese opera recreated based on western drama concept

Kunqu Opera “The Chairs”

  The 3rd Shanghai Experimental Xiqu Festival will be held at Zhou Xinfang Drama Space during December 10-23.

  The Festival intends to apply the pioneer experimental concept of the western drama to Chinese opera, and we will see that through Jiangnan-flavored humanity Huaiju "Kong Yiji", philosophical experimental Kunqu Opera “The Chairs”, Liyuan opera “Lü Mengzheng” with the inheritance of Chinese ancient music.

  Kunqu Opera “The Chairs” was adapted from the masterpiece of the same name created by Eugène Ionesco, French dramatist and the father of the absurd drama, and it has been performed in several countries including Russia and Japan. Shen Dieli who stars in “The Chairs” said the recreation concerns not only the physical space but also the mind development and release. She added,” Small theater contains a lot of energy and what we have to do is simplifying the story and showing the richer inner.”

Huaiju “Kong Yiji”

  Experimental Huaiju “Kong Yiji” was adapted from the Vernacular Chinese story of the same name written by Lu Xun and combined with this era.
