International archaeologists visit the Qingpu Museum during the Shanghai Archaeology Forum.

During the 3rd Shanghai Archaeology Forum which was held between December 8 and 11, 150 archaeologists from all over the world visited the Qingpu Museum on December 10.

Hosted by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and the Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS), the Shanghai Archaeology Forum is held every two years. Themed “Water and Ancient Civilization,” the third edition of the forum focused on the complicated relationship between water resource, water management and the development of ancient civilization through a number of cross-cultural and interdisciplinary studies.

While visiting the Qingpu Museum, archaeologists from the U.S.A., the U.K., India, Uzbekistan and other countries and regions were not only impressed by the exhibits housed in the museum but also gained a better understanding of the history and culture of Shanghai. They believed that Qingpu, an area abundant in lakes and waterways, has plenty of water resource and a rich water culture, which best represents the theme of the forum.

The same day, the experts also went to an exhibition titled “Qinglong Town and the Maritime Silk Road” in the company of Chen Xingcan, Director of the Institute of Archaeology of CASS.
