​Russian masterpieces born in the late 1800s come to Shanghai

“Portrait of an Unknown Woman” created by Ivan Kramskoi in 1883

“The Wanderers: Masterpieces from the State Tretyakov Gallery”, a blockbuster exhibition the Shanghai Museum launched at the end of 2017, is officially opened to the public on December 15.

Paintings in this exhibition are remarkable masterpieces from the State Tretyakov Gallery which boasts the most comprehensive and important collection of the Wanderers’ artworks, which entitled the Gallery as ‘home of the Wanderers’. This exhibition illustrates the achievements made by the talented artists of the second half of the 19th century in Russia by virtue of genre paintings, portraitures, landscapes and history paintings. The show will include 68 paintings such as “Portrait of an Unknown Woman”, created by Ivan Kramskoi, Ilya Repin, Isaac Levitan, Ivan Shishkin and other outstanding painters.

Visitors can gain a better understanding of Russian people's daily life, their folk customs, ethnic clothing and historical events through the paintings.
