University students conduct cross-border field investigation of Belt and Road
By:Zheng Qian  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2017-12-15 16:05

With the research topic of “humanities exchange between China and Kazakhstan”, 10 students from the Belt and Road (B&R) Youth Observer Group of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) began a cross-border field investigation under the leadership of two teachers in July.

The group of 12 traveled from Shanghai to Yili, Xinjiang, and arrived at Kazakhstan’s Almaty through the Horgos port, and then took a train to Astana, starting an in-depth observation tour in the country.

During the tour, they have learned a lot from the local people. A pedlar who carried bags of goods back and forth between China and Kazakhstan to earn a living told them that the entry and exit process had been simplified. The entrepreneurs who had so much experience of the vicissitudes of life and placed great hope on young people irritated his experience and expectation to the "Belt and Road ". A retired Xinjiang policeman who had deep emotion for his hometown expressed his determination in developing it and guarding “Belt and Road”. Professors and experts who are dedicated to the research of Kazakh language enthusiastically welcomed more young people to learn about B&R countries. Residents in Horgos Port excitedly praised the improvement of living standard and infrastructure in recent years.

All these local voices deepen the group’s understanding of the B &R initiative and responsibilities they shoulder.

A magazine entitled “Belt and Road Youth Observation” had also been issued in November, providing a new platform for more young people to learn about B&R.
