From:Shanghai Foreign Affairs  |  2017-12-21 17:50

AConfucius Institute delegation of Basel University, Switzerland, led by Hans-Jakob Roth, chairman of the board of directors of the institute, visited Huangpu district on December 15. Chao Kejian, deputy head of the Huangpu District Government, met with the delegation and the two sides held talks on expanding their cooperation.

Chao Kejian said Huangpu, as Shanghai’s showcase, window and heart, has achieved rapid development in such sectors as financial service, commerce, trade, professional service, cultural and creative industry. Centering on Shanghai’s aim to build itself into an international financial center by 2020 and the district’s strategic goal of turning itself into a world-renowned metropolitan central district, Huangpu is advancing toward an asset management center, capital operation center and financial service center. It wishes to learn from the rich experience of Switzerland as the largest off-shore financial center and a leader in asset management business in the world and, with the Confucius Institute as a platform, boost cooperation in academic and other areas.

Hans-Jakob Roth said Basel boasts a strong historical and cultural atmosphere, where nearly 40 museums and top-class modern architectural works by Jacques Herzog, Jean Tinguely and others stand on both sides of the Rhine and the annual Art Basel and Baselworld exhibitions fill the ancient town with vitality. Huangpu district also boats longstanding and rich cultural & art and educational resources, such as Rockbund Art Museum and other modern art venues. Based on the experience of past successful cooperation, the Confucius Institute expected to, through this meeting, enhance understanding of China and the world and further boost the cultural exchange between the two sides.
