A building technology company based in Zhangjiang National Innovation Demonstration Zone (Jinshan Park), Shanghai, has made a 3D printed bus stop from recycled construction materials.

After being 3D printed, the new bus stop, which is the first of its kind, was transported to a location on a country road in Shanghai’s Fengjing Town and put in use for Fengjing Line 4.

The bus stop is a closed-loop design and looks like a giant grey rectangular. To reflect its original appeal, the grooves cut by the 3D printer’s nozzle are still kept on the surface. The printing materials used are eco-friendly recycled materials, which fit quite well with the characteristic of the ancient town of Fengjing.

People living in the town are very pleased to have the new bus stop. According to some passengers, there was no shelter at the bus stop before. The new stop is a surprise to them. It seems to pop out of nowhere because there was no construction ongoing at the site.

The 3D printed bus stop which just began its trial run is a pilot project. In the near future, 3D printed bus stops will be more functional. Other than stools, they will be equipped with tables for homework and household chores.
