On March 6, a report series on the theme of “40 People Talk about 40 Years of Reform and Opening up” was launched by Eastday.com, in honor of the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up.

As the first interviewee, Chinese-born American actress Lisa Lu (known as Lu Yan in China), was invited to sit down for an interview with Eastday.com, marking the official launch of the report series.

Living a legendary life, Lisa Lu is acclaimed as a messenger of China-U.S. cultural exchanges. During the interview, while recalling her artist career and her Shanghai connection, the 91-year-old shared her view on the cultural exchanges between East and West and mentioned some remarkable moments in the global promotion of Chinese culture.

The “40 People Talk about 40 Years of Reform and Opening up” report series is hosted by Eastday.com with the support of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC). In 2018, Eastday.com reporters will talk with 40 representative figures who have witnessed the development of China’s reform and opening up. Coming from different backgrounds, these 40 people represent the different sectors of society, including economy and trade, culture, education, folk exchanges, and science and technology. Some of them are expatriates who have developed a deep love for Shanghai. Their stories and life experiences may not cover all the changes of China in the past for decades. However, the era they live in is closely tied to revolution. They’re a microcosm of China after the launch of the reform and opening up. By talking with them, Eastday.com will bring you a better understanding of the wisdom of development and pioneering spirit of both Shanghai and China.
