Overhead lines on Wukang Rd to go underground
By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2018-03-20 13:13

(Wukang Mansion is one of the most recognizable buildings on Wukang Road.)

Overhead lines on Shanghai’s Wukang Road, which is particularly famous for its beautiful residential buildings incorporating a diverse range of architectural styles, are going underground. The vast network of power and communications lines filling the air will be replaced by buried cables.

As a landmark of the road, the Wukang Mansion has been a hotspot for tourists. However, people’s sight of the ancient building has always been obstructed by the overhead lines.

“So many lines have blocked people’s view. When will this problem be fixed?” asked one senior citizen.

Thanks to an urban regulation project, construction signs have been erected on the road aiming to clear the complicated system of overhead lines around the Wukang Mansion. The sidewalk of the road on the south side of Middle Huaihai Road has also been closed. Underground excavation will soon be carried out, and the aerial overhead lines will be placed under the sidewalk.

Starting this month, regulation projects will be carried out monthly in the next three years to solve the problem of overhead lines on Middle Huaihai Road, Yueyang Road, Wukang Road, Zhaojiabang Road and Hunan Road. It is reported that the construction project on Wukang Road will be completed in June, and the Wukang Mansion, by that time, will look more attractive from afar.
