A relics exhibition showcasing the replica of Mogao grottoes is to open in Shanghai Tower in the middle of April. At present, three grottoes have already been replicated for the first phase of the exhibition.

Dating back to the 4th to 14th century in northwestern China's Gansu province, Mogao Caves are the best known Chinese Buddhist grottoes and along with Longmen Grottoes and Yungang Grottoes are one of the three famous ancient Buddhist sculptural sites of China.

Entering the three grottoes which has been replicated the same size of the original ones, visitors could deeply experience the prosperity of a thousand years ago through the magnificent airborne Buddha statues, fairy images, flying images of the mural.

The first phase exhibits are grotto 220, grotto 285, grotto 29. Since the replicas were made from wallpaper printed in an accuracy of the millimeter, they bring as astonishing effect as the genuine, which is valued for the scale and richness of content as well as its artistry.

It is the first time seven Chinese museums jointly have hold an exhibition. Institutes including Duhaung Academy China, Gansu Provincial Museum, Gansu Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology are to present 118 national treasure relics and 10 pieces of treasures found in the Library Cave of the Mogao Grottoes. It is extremely rare to collectively exhibit such a large number of high-quality exhibits. In the form of high-tech interaction, virtual reality, etc., the exhibition is to bring audiences a shocking “immersion” viewing experience.
