On June 13 at Huacao town in Minhang District, a 250-meter landscaped promenade completed construction, becoming a beautiful scenic spot on the Suzhou River. Afterwards a small park will be built on the periphery of the promenade for people to rest.
According to the deputy director of Minhang’s Water Conservancy Bureau, Zhao Wei, the construction area of Suzhou River in Minhang District runs for 10.9 kilometers and is divided into two phases of construction. The six-kilometer first phase mission includes the reinforcement of the flood prevention wall, which is now completed and is expected to withstand the worst flood possible flooding over the next 100 years. The next step is to start building the scenic promenade and relaxation area following the approval of experts and consultation with the public. The first phase is planned to be completed by the end of year, when 15 scenic spots and 5 flood prevention tunnels, along with more ecological parks and recreational zones, will be open.

The Shanghai Water Conversancy Bureau has revealed that the ecological scenic promenade along the Suzhou River runs through many districts in the city and is expected to be in full operation by 2020. With the fourth phase of the reconstruction and pollution control project, the water quality of Suzhou River will be markedly improved by larger sewage plants and rebuilt pumping stations. By then, open water spaces and beautiful waterfront recreation areas will have turned Suzhou River into a popular destination.
