Yuyuan Garden in the dog days of summer: an Earthly Fairyland
By:Tang Xinning  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2018-07-19 17:50

On July 17, 2018, Shanghai formally welcomed the dog days of summer which may last for about 40 days. On that day, the highest temperature was around 35℃, nearly triggering a high temperature warning signal released by the local meteorological bureau.

Yuyuan Garden, a famous classical private garden located in the northeast of Shanghai’s old city, was first built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) by a government official named Pan Yunduan. Yu, in Chinese means safeness and happiness which contained Pan’s best wishes for his parents. Nowadays, the unique design and remarkable landscaping, along with the beautiful meaning, attracts millions of tourists from all over the nation and world every year.

For tourists’ better experience, a cold fog system was opened to cool the surroundings on the Jiuqu Bridge side of Yuyuan Garden. Looking from afar, the Mid-lake Pavilion was embraced gently by cold mist, just like a fairyland on earth.
