The 2018 Shanghai Book Fair kicked off yesterday
and more than 500 publishing houses from across the country are participating
in this year’s exhibition.
In recent years, the Shanghai Book Fair
has been the platform for publishers to showcase their brands. While books are still
the focus of this celebration, distinctively designed exhibition spaces are
also appealing to the visitors and bookworms.
Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing
House
Under the extravagant dome of the front
hall is a structure with two entwined upward spiral staircases circling a
golden pillar, which is the main installation of this year’s event. Close to
the entrance of the West Hall, Zhejiang Publishing United Group and Jiangsu Phoenix
Publishing & Media Corporation have taken up the most conspicuous space
near the sweeping staircases. Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House has
hung original drafts of comic strips on the wall made of red bricks in their
space.
Guizhou’s booth stand
The most prime location of the central
hall is occupied by China Publishing Group Corp and Guizhou’s exhibition area,
As the Guest of Honor, Guizhou has set up an exhibition stand with a structure
resembling the mountainous terrain in Guizhou province.
Fudan University Press and Shanghai
Jiaotong University Press, the two academic publishing houses are facing each
other, with the booth of the former displaying the elements of its ancient
style main gate, and the booth of the latter bringing the features of the
Xianghui Auditorium in Fudan University to the fair.
Chen Bochui’s House of Children’s Books
Beside the Front Hall is the “House of
Children’s Books” exhibition space, which has been set up by the Chen Bochui
International Children's Literature Award for 4 consecutive years. As the
organizer of this special space, Pan Lan, curator of the Shanghai Baoshan
International Folk Arts Exposition said that the “Chen Bochui’s House of
Children’s Books” has been committed to the promotion of reading since its
first participation in the Shanghai Book Fair.
Chen Bochui’s House of Children’s Books
In the past few years, the “House of Children’s
Books” space has featured such themes as “House for Reading Aloud”, and AR
technology. This year, a mini pop-up store no
larger than 2 square meters is presented to the public with no sales clerk
around and not even a book to be found inside. But visitors can interact with
the virtual guide named Tongtong and after a few simple questions and data
analysis, a list of books that best suit their needs will be carefully selected
for them from the winners of the Chen Bochui International Children's
Literature Awards. The selected books can be bought and taken away from the
booth by simply scanning the code.
These specially designed exhibition spaces
definitely add glamour to the 2018 Shanghai Book Fair.
