Lost & Found Museum eyes on DUI
By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2018-10-18 16:03

On Oct. 17, China’s first Lost & Found Museum opened its doors in Shanghai’s Jing’an Park.

Located in No.8 Building in the park, the new museum is a one-week-long temporary exhibition of items, which intends to give a warning to young people against DUI.

Themed “No Driving under the Influence,” the pop-up museum is divided into nine parts on two floors exhibiting 52 pieces of works crafted by 10 artists. Each artwork represents what young people may lose because of drunk driving. The concept of “lost and found” has been extended through a wide range of media such as art installations, sculptures, images, and videos and audio recordings, bringing a unique sensory feast to the audience.

Visitors to the museum can also have an opportunity to witness the scene of a serious car accident, which is actually an art installation created using real-time data gathered from actual crashes. At first, people can see an intact car. However, within a few seconds, it will be gradually destroyed by data from DUI incidents taking place all across the country.

So far, the visually striking car accident scene has triggered much reflection upon life among visitors.

As the preface of the exhibition says, everything is just a choice away. At the museum, the younger generation are suggested to cherish their lives and avoid drunk driving.
