UNESCO holds lifelong learning seminar in China

A seminar themed around lifelong learning development for UNESCO member countries has been opened in Shanghai Open University. Co-sponsored by Shanghai Open University, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, the China National Commission for UNESCO and East China Normal University, the seminar will last for two weeks. This is the first time the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning has co-organized such a seminar in China.

Students of the first seminar are educational decision makers and leading researchers nominated by the Ministries of Education of Indonesia, Vietnam, Kenya and Namibia. These include government officials from various ministries of education, officials and experts from departments such as adult and continuing education, quality assurance, early childhood education, public education and sustainable education.[GOOD! During the workshop, participants will learn about the concept of lifelong learning and how to use it as a comprehensive solution to educational problems in various countries. They will also explore governance mechanisms needed to implement lifelong learning policies. In addition, members will discuss monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and new ways of using information and communication technologies, as well as sharing their experiences in building learning-advocated cities and ways to improve learning opportunities in rural areas.

To learn more about Shanghai’s successful and practical experience, the group is scheduled to field visit several community learning centers in Shanghai.
