Tourists who come to Shanghai now have 24 specially selected gifts to choose from while considering what souvenirs to take home with them. The specialties were recognized by a public evaluation held by the Shanghai Consumers Council on October 22.

Since August, 135 products in all applied for the selection. After a preliminary assessment by an expert panel, 43 products were evaluated as Shanghai specialties. In the second round of assessment, around 2,000 consumers from both China and abroad, along with industry experts, selected 24 high-quality Shanghai gifts. The top 5 on the list are: White Rabbit Creamy Candy, Park Hotel’s palmier (also known as “French butterfly cracker”), Shanghai No.1 Food Store’s palmier, Leiyunshang’s herbal sachet, Manloulan’s shawl, and Shanghai Jinfeng Wine’s Flower of Shanghai yellow rice wine.

Other popular brands such as Six God, Xinghualou, Shendacheng, and Inoherb, are also included in the final selection.

According to Tang Jiansheng, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Consumers Council, all the participating specialties must meet the following requirements: 1) belong to a self-owned brand of a Shanghai enterprise; 2) be designed or produced in Shanghai; 3) be highly recognized by consumers and have at least one prominent advantage in terms of product culture, quality and fashion; 4) have guaranteed quality assurance and have passed sample tests in the last three years; 5) be owned by a company that has a complete consumer rights protection mechanism and customer service system.
