Still of Pu Dong, a Chinese TV series depicting stories amidst the background of Pudong’s reform and opening up.

As a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening up policy, the TV program closely combines family affection, friendship and love with the period background to paint a picture of the young who were striving hard in the tide of Pudong’s opening up. Social topics which are closely related to contemporary young people, like choices upon graduation, long-distance relationships and the reality of marriage, have also been revealed.

According to the chief producer, Ren Zhonglun, Pudong’s reform and opening up epitomises China as a whole. The series records the changes of Pudong over the past 30 years and the people’s lives in the 1980s and 1990s. To present a sense of the time, the crew has especially gathered props such as rattan chairs, a barber shop, and portable coal stoves representative of Shanghai in the old days.
