Largest koi breeding base opens in Shanghai
By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2019-01-15 09:51

Since last year, reposting pictures of koi to attract good luck has become a trend on Weibo and WeChat. Now in Shanghai’s Songjiang District, you no longer need to repost the koi, as you can see them with your own eyes. This is because China’s largest koi breeding base was opened there last week.

According to Ma Xin, the person in charge of the base, his team surveyed many places to select the best site. When he examined the land of Maogang Town in Songjiang, he regarded the soil quality as positive. Accompanying experts then conducted a number of tests on the water and soil, which turned out to live up to national standards. Thus came the application and construction of the Wushe Koi Breeding Base in Maogang, Songjiang.

Koi breeders from all over the country were attracted to the opening ceremony of the breeding base. “From their look and quality, I am satisfied with No.1-5 koi. I am going to buy some of them,” said Peng Changjiang, a koi purchaser from East China’s Shandong Province. “I drove for more than eight hours to get here. I can easily pick the young koi up after purchasing.”

At present, the breeding base covers an area of 25 mu (about 16,666 square meters). It consists of indoor workshops for quarantine, young fish care, cultivation, and adult fish optimization, as well as 18 outdoor pools. So far, 11 species have been introduced into the breeding farm.
