The logo launch ceremony of the 2021 World Rowing Championships was held in the former Shanghai Rowing Club on March 24, marking the beginning of the preparation for the competition.
The design inspiration is the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Waibaidu Bridge, the iconic landmarks of the Bund.
In October 2017, the International Rowing Federation gave Shanghai the right to host the 2021 World Rowing Championships, meaning the world’s top rowing event will be held in China for the first time.

However, within Chinese rowing sports Shanghai is said to be the cradle. After the opening of Shanghai in the 19th century, the rowing movement was one of the earliest sports activities enjoyed by foreigners. The Huangpu River witnessed the earliest regattas in 1852 and in the following half a century rowing became an annual grand event on the Suzhou Creek, culminating in the Shanghai Rowing Club being set up on the creek bank in 1905.
The hosting right means that Shanghai will realize its rowing dream after over a hundred years.
