A photo exhibition featuring Shanghai’s development from 1949 to 2019 was opened at a central city metro station on August 20.
Citizens passing through East Nanjing Road Station between Lines 2 and 10 broke their stride to look at the photos on display.
The exhibition showcases 70 historical moments from Shanghai’s past seven decades, during which China’s first penicillin, first workers’ village and first modernized integrated steel conglomerate came into being, recalling people’s memories.
The event has attracted many subway passengers. “The exhibition is very good. As an old Shanghainese, I was very impressed by the photos which clearly document Shanghai’s development,” said Grandpa Sun who is in his 70s. He also held up his mobile phone to take photos of the exhibition.
Themed “Moments in History, 70 Years of Shanghai—Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China”, the exhibition is divided into three chapters: Reborn after the War (1949-1978); Reform and Opening Up (1978-2012); and Pursuit of Excellence (2012-2019). “The photos are well arranged in a chronological order. The timeline helps me better understand Shanghai’s past and present,” commented one citizen. “After watching the exhibition, I feel that our generation should keep improving ourselves to make more contributions to the motherland,” she added.
Jointly hosted by Eastday, the Party History Research Office of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Shanghai Shentong Metro Group Company, the exhibition at the metro station will last through early October. Prior to that, it has toured many countries such as Panama, Germany, Belgium, Brazil and South Africa.
