A glimpse into a pathogen identification lab in Hubei hospital
By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2020-02-21 09:49

After the outbreak of the novel coronavirus epidemic, a negative pressure PCR lab was built in Enshi City in Hubei within ten days. PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction and allows the identification of pathogenic organisms by detecting their DNA or RNA.

Safety and cleanliness can be ensured in the lab by strict air pressure control. After it is officially put into use, it will be able to screen patients with suspected symptoms in a timely manner, for early diagnosis and early treatment, thus providing technical support for the epidemic prevention and control.

On February 18, reporters took a look at the medical staff working in the lab.

Before entering the lab, researchers have to put on a protective overall and a positive pressure mask. They also check each other to ensure a full seal.
