Couriers take initiative for Spring Festival stay to support anti-pandemic
By:Zheng Qian  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2021-01-15 10:20

The anti-pandemic suggestion that people should avoid going to their hometowns en masse and potential gatherings during the upcoming Spring Festival has been well responded to. Many delivery people in Shanghai have canceled their plan to return to their hometowns for the week-long holiday.

Jin Xiayuan is a deliveryman working for STO Express. Even before the government announcement, he had decided not to return to his hometown for this year’s Spring Festival in consideration of the possible severe pandemic situation.

“I don’t want to trouble others,” said Mr. Jin, who thought that mandatory quarantine may be conducted after arriving at home and work resumption may also be influenced due to possible quarantine when back.

“Since many people choose to remain in Shanghai, the logistics demand must be higher than the past Spring Festivals. So if I remain here, I can make my own contributions,” said Jin.

Guo Haoqiang, a native of Hebei province who heads a Cainiao parcel pick-up and posting station in Shanghai, has also decided to remain. Since Hebei has become a COVID-19 hotspot, several days ago, Guo donated a batch of anti-pandemic materials including 10,000 medical masks and a dozen boxes of hand sanitizer to his home province. For other similar parcels being donated to Hebei, Guo has also waived the delivery charge.
