Health reminders for Major Cold period
By:Zheng Qian  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2021-01-20 19:19

Major Cold, the last solar term in Chinese lunar calender, begins this year on January 20. Literally meaning "reaching the limit of coldness" in Chinese, the Major Cold term will see strong winds, freezing temperatures, as well as a world of ice and snow in many parts of the country.

To maintain health and recharge the body, people should especially take in kidney-nourishing nutrition, such as black food including black sesame, black fungus and black beans, as well as nuts like walnuts, longans and chestnuts.

A proper amount of cold-dispelling condiments such as ginger, green onions, chili, pepper and cinnamon are also suitable for this cold weather.

Health care experts remind that the elderly, children and the vulnerable should especially keep warm and be careful of the weather changes during this solar term period.

Sports should be moderately reduced at this time. Relaxing exercises like qigong, brisk walking, jogging and shuttlecock kicking that can stretch the muscles and bones are recommended.
