JERUSALEM, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Israeli police investigators questioned Benjamin Netanyahu Tuesday in the official prime minister's residence in Jerusalem over new evidence in a telecom-giant corruption case, in which he is a suspect.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the Israeli leader is being questioned over the so-called "Case 4000," a criminal investigation involving senior officials in Bezeq, Israel's largest telecommunication company, and in the government.

This is Netanyahu's third questioning in the high-profile case.

Israel's Ha'aretz newspaper reported that Netanyahu is questioned over the new testimony of Nir Hefetz, a former spokesman for Netanyahu and his close associate who turned state's witness against him on March 5.

Hefetz gave the police recordings and text messages allegedly indicating bribery.

According to the police, Shaul Elovitch, the control-holder of Bezeq, received regulatory and financial benefits from the communication ministry, during Netanyahu's term as a communication minister. In exchange, Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, received positive coverage in Walla, a news site controlled by Elovitch.

Netanyahu has been entangled in a series of criminal investigations over alleged corruption.

In February, the police said there was enough evidence to charge Netanyahu with bribery, fraud and breach of trust in two separate cases. However, Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit has still to decide whether to press charges or drop the cases.
