JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- At least 17 people have been injured as six explosive devices placed by militants went off in parts of Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Monday, provincial governor's spokesman Attaullah Khogiani said.

All the victims, some in critical conditions, are civilians, the official added. The blasts took place as the people of Afghanistan were celebrating 100th anniversary of their country's Independence Day amid tight security.

Six more mines have been discovered and defused by the security forces, Khogiani added.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blasts.

Meantime, Zahir Adil, the spokesman for Public Health department in the eastern Nangarhar province in talks with Xinhua confirmed that 30 injured persons including some children had been taken to hospital in Jalalabad city for medical treatment.
