WELLINGTON, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Britain and New Zealand negotiated a trade deal in Wellington on Monday.

New Zealand Trade and Export Growth Minister David Parker and Britain's International Trade Secretary Liz Truss continued discussions towards the future trade deal.

Secretary Truss' visit to New Zealand at this time underscores Britain's commitment to maintaining and building an even stronger future relationship with New Zealand, Parker said in a statement.

In the discussions, the two sides reiterated the commitment to moving quickly towards a Free Trade Agreement as soon as Britain is "in a position to do so."

"Today we also discussed areas where it is important for us to step up progress to find mutually acceptable solutions that do not disadvantage New Zealand traders as a result of Brexit," Parker said, stressing shared interests in more open, sustainable and inclusive trade.
