UN-Habitat to sign a MoU with China under the framework of the Belt and Road

UN-Habitat is about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with China under the framework of the Belt and Road, said Dr. Joan Clos, Under-Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the UN-Habitat during the Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation opens today in Beijing, capital of China.

According to the MoU, the two sides will join hands to advance the urban sustainable development in various fields including the national urban policy, land use and land management, urban and land planning, urban infrastructure and services, space planning of special economic zones and border towns, human community and housing construction and human community and city immigration policy.

“We completely agree with the Silk Road Spirit of ‘peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit’,” said Joan Clos. He noted that the UN-Habitat is shouldering dual tasks of setting the global regulatory guidelines and providing assistance to member countries.

Since its establishment in 1978, the UN-Habitat has been making contributions to the community and urban development for many countries many countries along the Belt and Road including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Indonesia, according to Joan Clos.
