Firm pays high price for illegal road use
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2017-03-28 02:40

A logistics company, whose overloaded trucks damaged the city’s Middle Ring Road last May, was fined 210,000 yuan (US$30,540) and the company’s license for transportation operation was revoked.

The city’s transportation commission also said yesterday that Shanghai Jianjing Logistics Company had been ordered to pay just over 10 million yuan for repairing the road.

In the early morning of May 23, the company had seven illegally overloaded trucks using roads in areas from which they were prohibited , including the Middle Ring Road.

Two of the trucks overturned on the section between Zhenhua Road and Wanrong Road of the elevated road, damaging the surface of the road.

The surface of the road was dislocated with a 40-centimeter crack, the bureau said.

No injuries or casualties were reported.

Such trucks are banned from running on the elevated road.

Part of the elevated road and roads on the ground were closed for 23 days to carry out the repair work.

Four people were prosecuted by Songjiang District People’s Procuratorate recently for their involvement in the traffic accident, including the two drivers and two officials of the company.

The transportation commission said it would work with police to tighten regulations on transportation companies, and introduce a blacklist system to further crack down on illegally overloaded trucks.
