Taliban commander killed in air strike in Afghanistan

Air raids against a Taliban hideout in Helmand province south of Afghanistan claimed the life of Taliban commander in the restive region, spokesman of the provincial administration Daud Ahmadi said Tuesday.

"The international troops in chasing Taliban insurgents carried air raids against the Taliban in Gereshk district Monday night killing notorious Taliban commander Mawlawi Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor," Ahmadi told Xinhua.

Mansoor, according to him, was an important Taliban commander in Helmand province.

Meantime, Taliban fighters have not made any comment yet.

Taliban fighters have vowed to speed up attacks and activities this year in Afghanistan.
